Crate Training

Ask your self, is your dog the happiest and healthiest it can be?

Animals are instinctive by nature and one of these instincts is to create a safe & warm environment for its self, for instance making a den to sleep in. You may have noticed your pet dog may be hiding under tables or chairs or in other enclosed spaces? I know I have. Dog crates can help your animal feel as comfortable in his own home as you do.

It has been proven that the fastest and most effective way to housebreak a puppy is through “Crate Training”. Dogs try to avoid being near their own waste as much as possible so they usually keep their crate very clean.

While working with dogs, you should first decide which crate is suitable for your puppy. He needs to be able to stretch out as well as stand up and move around.  Sometimes if the space is too large the dog can become confused and use half as a bathroom and half as a bedroom, this is not what you want! Alternatively you can purchase a divider panel that enables expansion when your puppy becomes a dog.

Dogs love to sleep near their owners, for them its like sleeping with their pack. This can also help with making the dog feel comfortable within his create and allow you to monitor his behaviour while dog sitting.

When the dog is released from his crate it’s a always a good idea for them to be taken outside straight away to complete any necessary business. Always congratulate and reward your dog when he eliminates outside as this great positive reinforcement. If your dog isn’t used to living with you in your house yet it is always an excellent idea to keep a constant eye on your pet, sometimes this is not possible, if so then place him in the crate with one of his favourite toys to keep him occupied.

To receive the best rewards from your pet care training it is important to feed your pup at regular time intervals and use his crate at all possible opportunities. This will greatly increase the time in which your animal will become fully housebroken.

Unsupervised dogs can become anxious and bored and as a result they can start displaying destructive chewing behaviour. If you are away from your dog its very importable to use a create during these time periods.

Dogs actually sleep most the time when their owners aren’t present. Being in the crate during these absences helps stop the dog from eating something harmful. Dogs are a pack animal and can become anxiety and distressed when you leave the house. Making your dogs crate time a really positive experience can help fix this troublesome situation.

The most important rule of crate training is to never use your dogs crate as a form of punishment! Always crate your dog if you have to travel with them. With the right animal care training and encouragement, the dogs crate can and will become a precious and comfortable area for him and a very effective training too for you!
